Bettina Leitner

Bettina Leitner is a linguist specializing in Arabic dialectology, with a focus on Bedouin and peripheral varieties of Arabic. She teaches Arabic as well as seminars on Arabic linguistics, including the use of digital humanities in Arabic linguistics. Her research interests include language contact, dialect variation, and the documentation and grammatical description of under-described Arabic varieties, particularly in Oman and the wider Arabian Peninsula. She combines fieldwork-based methods with comparative and typological approaches and has published on Arabic dialects, contact-induced change, and pragmatic phenomena in spoken Arabic. She is currently affiliated with the University of Vienna.
