
Franco Niccolucci
Franco Niccolucci is a former professor at the University of Florence, Italy. In 2008 he became the Founding Director of a novel research centre in Nicosia, Cyprus, the “Science and Technology in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Research Centre”, where he remained until 2013. In the meantime he maintained the role of director of the VAST Research Laboratory at Fondazione PIN in Italy. In this position he led the large-scale EU Projects ARIADNE (2013-2017) and ARIADNEplus (2017-2022) on archaeological and cultural heritage data, eventually founding in 2022 the ARIADNE RI (Research Infrastructure) AISBL, an organization that currently manages a catalogue of over 4.000.000 archaeological and heritage datasets from all of Europe and beyond. Niccolucci is the President and Director of ARIADNE RI, where he leads a team of researchers working on advanced projects on heritage digitization. At present he is the Scientific Coordinator of ARTEMIS.
