Arnoud Wils
Arnoud Wils holds a PhD in Literary Studies and a degree in Classics from KU Leuven. Throughout his career, he has worked at the intersection of digital technologies, literature, culture, and the humanities, in roles spanning developer, data specialist, journalist, and media editor at the Flemish public broadcaster VRT, as well as educational technologist and researcher at KU Leuven. Since 2023, he has been a Research Software Engineer at The Plant, the digital laboratory of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Maastricht University, where he is also a lecturer. In his role as an RSE, Arnoud supports students, PhD candidates, and researchers in integrating digital technologies into their research, from setting up digital infrastructures and assisting with data collection and classification, to extracting structured data from unstructured or messy sources, and processing and visualizing data, leveraging the potential of NLP and LLMs where appropriate. Other projects focus on digital preservation techniques using sustainable web technologies. In 2026, he was awarded a four-week research fellowship at the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities to build on this expertise. Since September 2026, Arnoud has been a member of DARIAH’s Joint Research Committee.
