Digital Linguistics

This ACDH lecture by Andreas Witt provides an introduction to Digital Linguistics, a field at the intersection of linguistics, information technology and the social sciences. Rather than focusing primarily on computational language tasks, Digital Linguistics considers digital language data as objects of research in their own right. The lecture traces the development of the field, examines its connections with Digital Humanities and Computational Linguistics, and discusses the importance of managing, preserving and providing access to language data for research.
