Guidelines for Use of AI Content in Resources

Guidelines for how DARIAH-Campus requires declaration of AI in the development of content in resources.

Why Do We Need These Guidelines?

As use of (generative) Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly accessible and accepted within everyday working practices, it in turn becomes necessary to establish guidelines on its use within the use of pedagogical materials.  Within DARIAH-Campus, we aim to ensure trust and accuracy in all our learning resources, either contextually catalogued ‘external’ resources, or directly published ‘hosted’ resources, including pathfinders and captured events.

Therefore, in order to ensure this trust is maintained, both among our contributors, and our learners, we have established these guidelines to allow for greater transparency in the use of (generative) AI in the development of resources published to DARIAH-Campus.

How to Declare Use of AI

DARIAH-Campus encourages openness and transparency in the development of learning resources published in any form to the DARIAH-Campus platform.

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by adding a statement before the ‘Learning Outcomes’ at the beginning of their learning resource.  We suggest the following format:

During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME TOOL/SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.

If a specific image or video was created or developed with the use of AI, we also require that this is declared next to the item (e.g. in a caption or similar).  For example:

An autumnal scene of a path through a wood with orange and yellow leaves all over the ground, and the trees all covered in orange and yellow leaves..

This declaration does not apply to basic tools for grammar, spelling, or reference checking. If there is nothing to disclose, no statement is required.
